London-based Moxon Architects are expanding their Scottish arm with new premises for their studio, which will be coming up on the disused quarry site in the Scottish Highlands. The upcoming studio will accommodate the increasing workforce and new ambitious infrastructure projects including HS2, UK’s high-speed rail network, and bridge and highway projects in Scotland and overseas. The firm has two projects already under construction in Scotland, including Cairngorms National Park Headquarters and Fife Arms Hotel in Braemar for Hauser & Wirth. The studio design features two low-lying buildings that are separated by a topographic barrier covered in Mature Birch, Aspen, and Rowan. The two parts correspond to the twin role of an architecture practice: focused design work and broad collaboration. The privately-positioned building, hidden from view by the landscape, creates a peaceful area for work housing studio, meeting rooms, and offices. The road-facing building houses social and flexible working spaces including a lounge area, kitchen, and staff dining area. A covered walkway connects the two buildings, providing a sheltered space to enjoy the thick woods. The building’s lightweight frame is a deliberate attempt to nestle the studio into the contors and vegetation that define the area. For more details, visit: https://moxonarchitects.com/ Click on the slideshow for a sneak peek at the project.
