‘Utopia Now – The Story of Finnish Design’ at Design Museum, Helsinki

The exhibition titled “Utopia Now – The Story of Finnish Design” is on view at Design Museum, Helsinki.The selection of works on display explores the history of Finnish design through the use of contemporary technologies and digital platform. The exhibition focuses on the role of design in the formation of the Finnish welfare state. The show is categorized into different segments. The process room looks at design in the context of everyday objects. The Virtual Room contains a three-dimensional display of the Finnish pavilion at the Paris World’s Fair of 1900. The Timeline Corridor projects the trajectory of Finnish design and its various developments. The Icon Room displays utopias that led to the creation of products with a focus on women. The final installment the Warehouse features a number of objects drawn from the museum’s collection. The exhibition celebrates the Centenary of Finnish Independence.The Design Museum is an internationally recognized space for Finnish design. It conducts research, stores, collects, and documents design. It has a lively exhibition program and exhibitions are held both in Finland and its collections are part of touring exhibitions abroad.
