Only months after presenting its first custom built, semi-public community center in Japan, US hospitality provider Airbnb is venturing into intercultural space sharing once again with “Sobremesa”, a joint project with Mexico City-based design studio Pedro&Juana currently spotlighted in the Design Miami collaborations section.“Sobremesa is the Mexican tradition of sharing time and space lingering around the table after a meal in casual conversation,” a statement issued for the debut explains. For their Miami installation, Ana Paula Ruiz Galindo and Mecky Reuss of Pedro & Juana transfer the experience into an environment inspired by Mexican courtyard spaces. To reflect the transient nature of Airbnb,  the Sobremesa installation will change and evolve as the week proceeds, to “represent how shared spaces—like Airbnb homes— become rich in experience, spirit, and memory as more and more people live and participate in them over time.”Visitors can also indulge in a program of meals, cocktails, music, and experiences at designated times throughout the week.
