Zaha Hadid Architects on Shortlist for 2016 Aga Khan Award

A project by Zaha Hadid Architects is among the 19 shortlisted for the 2016 Aga Khan Award.Hadid’s company, whose work continues after her sudden death this year, is picked for the Issam Fares Institute in Lebanon.The prestigious architecture award, now in its 13 cycle, has $1 million with of prize money. The short list was chosen by a jury from 348 nominations.The shortlist includes projects in Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, China, Denmark, Iran, Jordan, Kosovo, Lebanon, Morocco, Nigeria, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, and Spain.The Aga Khan Award for Architecture selects projects that not only exhibit architectural excellence but also improve the quality of life. It has championed slum upgrading to high rise “green” buildings. The award recognizes not just architects, but also municipalities, builders, clients, engineers, and others. More than 110 projects have received the award since it was started nearly 40 years ago.The Hadid project, for the American University of Beirut, was completed in 2014.
