The 2015 Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism\Architecture (Hong Kong) (UABB(HK)) has officially opened.The exibition and festival has a partner event in Shenzhen.For the next three months, until February 28, UABBHK will be a destination to learn, share, and discover the built environment of Hong Kong. Under the title “Visions 2050 – Lifestyle and the City,” the Biennale will examine the living culture of Hong Kong, both as it is now and also for the next 35 years.Spread across the 34,000 square meters of Kowloon Park, 60 exhibitors from all over the world will be presenting large-scale installations, artwork, fashion, accessories, and urban farming. The list of participants includes inventors, academics, businesses, collectives, architects, planners, ecologists, fashion and product designers, filmmakers, photographers, and students.“The UABB(HK) encourages us to look ahead to 2050 and consider how we want and need our city to evolve over the next 35 years,” said Vincent Ng, President of the Hong Kong Institute of Architects. “UABBHK is a platform for discussion and contemplation.”Curated by Christine Hawley (read our interview with Professor Hawley here), the program invites discussion with the wider public, particularly the younger generations, through four components of the program: lectures and forums, thematic screenings, education, and the special program titled “Lifestyle and the Smart City.”Architectural writer and lecturer Sir Peter Cook will lead a public forum to discuss visions of the future for Hong Kong.The screening program was launched with a public screening of Hong Kong Trilogy by Christopher Doyle, and will continue with films focused on the urban environment, such as “The Human Scale” by Andreas M. Dalsgaard, and “Watermark” by Edward Burtynsk.The education program will involve 20 young ambassadors from Hong Kong secondary schools and universities, leading guided tours for the public. Finally, the outdoor program “Lifestyle and the Smart City” will include an architectural and design exhibition at the Satellite Venue, inside the Hong Kong Science and Technology Park (HKSTP), as well as a presentation on technology, titled “The Dome of Future Cities.”First presented in 2007, and led by the Hong Kong Institute of Architects, the Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism\Architecture is one of the most prestigious of its Asian counterparts.2015 Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism\Architecture (Hong Kong) will be showing from December 11 – February 28, 2016 at Kowloon Park, Hong Kong.Its partner event, the Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism\Architecture (Shenzhen), runs concurrently with the theme “Re-Living the City.”
