Belgian furniture designer and sculptor Xavier Lust takes over Botanique in Brussels for September, holding an overview exhibition of his career thus far. Key pieces from Lust's oeuvre, characterized by metal work, will be presented alongside previously unexhibited works. Lust has been on the global radar since 2000, when he has started working with metal. The trademark of his style is metal furniture and objects with unusual, elegant curves, reminiscent of Zaha Hadid's buildings. This innovative designer has developed a technique for shaping metal surfaces, which produces curves shapes without moulding. The process lets the metal material assume fluid, light forms that appear natural and unforced. Economical in both materials and production means, the technique also strengthens the resistance of the materials used. Born in 1969, Xavier Lust has an established design studio in Brussels. He lectures on design nad has had exhibitions worldwide, including a retrospective at Grand-Hornu Images in 2007. He has worked with leading design houses, such as MDF Italia, Driade, De Padova, Cerruti Baleri, Fiam and Extremis, as well as with public authorities. The streets of Brussels feature his furniture, including the benches on the Mont des Arts and the upcoming shelters for the municipal public transport company. Apart from his designs for mass production, Lust also produces highly collectable items, unique or in limited series, for individual clients. Today, his works at featured in the permanent collections of Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam and the Musée des Arts Decoratifs in Paris. Xavier Lust: Design Stories will be showing from September 10 through October 31, 2015, at Botanique Museum in Brussels.
