The first Vienna Biennale 2015, designed as the first event of this kind to combine art, design, and architecture, is entering its final month.Particularly for those interested in architecture, urbanism and design, September offers a rich program of events, centred around the theme Smart Life in the City.The title of the Biennale is "Ideas for Change," framing its agenda as looking beyond the disciplines of applied art, architecture and design.An initiative by MAK – Austrian Museum of Applied Arts / Contemporary Art, organised in partnership with art, education and technology institutions across Vienna, the new biennale was established "with the understanding that we are living in a new modernity in which the digital revolution penetrates all areas of our life and is thus fundamentally changing our civilization", as reads the mission statement.Comparable to the industrial revolution, the digital revolution presents a new range of questions for architecture, design and the arts. What are the paths to positive change? How can the creative potential of art and design be used to find answers to the most important challenges of today? What innovative living concepts and business models are there, and how can they lead us to lasting improvements in quality of life? All of these questions are tackled in the exhibition "2051. Smart Life in the City," organised by MAK and Vienna Business Agency. Ideas for Change Powered by Pecha KuchaA presentation concept invented in Tokyo, Pecha Kucha allows only 20 slides, each showing for only 20 seconds, for a total presentation time of less than seven concise minutes. magdas Social DinnerMagdas, a Vienna hotel and cantine staffed by refugees, organises a Social Dinner, where the long-settled Viennese can meet asylum seekers and travelers.
