Irving Harper, a pioneering furniture and product designer of the American mid-century Modernism, died on Tuesday at the age of 99.During his life, Irving Harper was largely overshadowed by the reputation of the revered industrial designer George Nelson, for whom Harper worked. As a designer, and later design director, for George Nelson Associates, Irving Harper designed some of the most iconic products of 20th century design, such as the Marshmallow Sofa and the Ball Clock.During his time with the firm, most of Harper's designs were attributed to George Nelson, the charismatic director of the company, as was company's practice. The designers were individually credited in trade publications, but for the consumers, the credit went to the firm and Nelson himself, not to his talented stable of designers. Still today, many of Harper's designs are sold with the attribution to George Nelson. To celebrate this great designer, BLOUIN ARTINFO has compiled a list of the best of Irving Harper's designs.
